One of the reasons why we started to make surfboards, it’s because we couldn’t find the ones we wanted. Tired of shortboards and “formula one” models that only make you look good outside of the water but make you surf terrible (literally speaking and in attitude), together with some friends that shape, we started designing and making surfboards for us to surf well, instead of surfing better.

From the Azores to the world, we want to bring a “new” way of surfing, where your smile and happiness riding a wave, is in first place, and not the number of aerials and manoeuvres you can pull off. Surf well with us.

SURF WELL, NOT BETTER

We should say that with our boards you won't win anything really. We are interested in surfing well, sharing waves, respecting the ocean and most importantly other surfers in the water. Our surfboards are a reflection of that, more volume and bigger than your average shortboard, they are made to bring you happiness riding the waves.

We collaborate with friends, producing and making surfboards we love. Our interest is to bring different concepts and approaches to surfing, always with love for the waves behind it. JOÃO BRILHANTE SURFBOARDS

One of the first surfers and shapers on the island, João has spent the last 30 years making surfboards and working in some new concept GRAVITAS. Surfboards specially designed for small, medium waves, and made for you to enjoy as much as possible each wave. If you are around, not only you have to meet João but also to try one of his models. You´ll get hooked.

We are not a surf brand or surf school in Azores, but we have some people we love that can help you with anything you need. From trying different surfboards, or getting a private surf lesson Let us know what you are looking for and we point you in the right direction. Just bring a bottle of wine, after you meet us.

SURFBOARDS FOR SALE

From brand new to used ones, the truth is all our boards are for sale and have a price. As we said before, we like to build one of a kind surfboards with friends that shape, and we are glad when they find a surfer that really wants to continue the love affair made here on the island. Only in that case we let them go 😀
