To be able to catch Fred, was not easy. Understandably, for someone that was born and bred on two wheels (or just one most of the time), life is always a race. In his case an amazing race, of friends, love and doing what makes him happy. An avid lover of bikes, classic cars, pick up trucks, and everything with wheels, Fred is the friend always going faster than you ... and smiling.
Who are you?
I'm Frederico, born in 1979 in São Miguel Island, Azores, and I’m always ready to rock!!
How’s life on the Island?
Life on this island can be a dream. Luckily, I’ve been able to travel a lot and see the world and visit many places, and for that I’m sure that the place where I live is one of the best places on the planet. As it’s a quite small island, you can perfectly ride dirt bikes in the morning and in the afternoon go to the beach and catch some waves. There’s no better feeling to get to all these spots in a 10 or 20 minutes’ drive.
Favorite place?
I got my own (secret) spots on the island, but I spend lots of time in Sete Cidades. It’s a very quiet area and away from people and confusion, it’s where I try to get some peace and free my mind.
Hobbies?
When I’m not riding my motorbikes, I’m probably working on them. I’m also addicted to stickers. I like to create some stickers and spend some time sticking them everywhere. If it’s a good sunny day and some good waves, for sure I’m jumping in the water to get some good ones with my longboard. And at the end of the day it’s the perfect time for a beer and chill.
Favorite object?
I don’t have a favorite one. I consider myself a collector. I like to collect things that I appreciate. Now I’m collecting a lot of stuff from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s era. I think it was a great time by then and I’m trying to bring some pieces back to life again.
One song / one band
So many songs, so many bands… Depends on the mood and what I’m doing.
What’s been keeping busy?
I consider myself a daydreamer. I’m always thinking about the future and what I can achieve on the next day. I like to trade, actually I spend a lot of time trading. I like to buy and sell, buy and sell every day.
If you could pick one person (alive or dead), one to ride with or have a conversation, who would it be? Why?
For sure, I would love to spend a day riding and sharing some experiences with Shaun Palmer, not just because he was once the world’s best athlete (circa 1998), but for all the influence he had on me back in the days when I was competing downhill mountain bike and motocross. For sure, his aggressive attitude, riding style and ambition to win everything, caught my attention and pumped me a lot in the most important time of my life. When I was on my top performance of my competitive time, I only wanted to win races and be a badass!!
You can´t go faster than Fred but you can follow him @rodanoah
